turn, and bore the blank to a size. Then we will use the live tooling to mill the profile and drill/Tap the holes. Haas and Fanuc provide a G code that will permit the use of X, Y coordinated to describe the profiles and transform them into X, C polar coordinates to create the profile shape. The drilling and tapping operation can be easily

Turn-Mill Machining

A CNC turn-mill is a machine tool that resembles a horizontal or vertical lathe, but can perform milling, drilling, tapping and other operations using one or more milling spindles. A turning center having a turret with live tooling spindles in some of its stations is a simple example of a turn-mill. More sophisticated turn-mills have powerful …

Why Y-Axis For Turn/Mill Machines? | Modern Machine Shop

Before leaping headlong into turn/mill, here are some considerations: It's expensive. Mr. Venjara says the premium for Y-axis capability on a turn/mill machine tool is about 30 percent which is still less than a turning center and machining center together. Pick the right parts. At its heart, a turn/mill machine is a turning center.

Different ways of programming mill-turn machine (part 1)

On a big mill-turn with X, Y and Z axes on-board we can use standard 3-axis programming mode: G0 X0.0 Y45. Z-3. F600. But on most of mill-turns we can't move X-axis too far in negative direction (down), because we will reach axis limit. Also on machines without Y-axis we can't program in regular XYZ mode.

Mill-Turn Programming Software Solutions

Mill-turning machines often include multiple turrets with different tools, some of which can engage the part at the same time. For this reason, the most important aspects of safe and efficient mill-turn programming are 1) robust mill and lathe programming techniques, and 2) the ability to properly synchronize tool motion from multiple locations.
